When I was reading this book and came across this quote, I loved it immediately. I thought that it really summed up the relationship between Pudge and Alaska. Pudge represented the gentle drizzle and Alaska came into his life as a wild, crazy, hurricane. Alaska came into his world and changed it upside down, just as a real hurricane would.

  1. I totally agree with the fact that this quote sums up the relationship with Pudge and Alaska. She met him and was like a blast of energy and was like someone Miles has never seen and was a total opposite to his character and personality. I think the quote also puts in perspective how much he adores her since her puts her on such a pedestal and just sees himself as simple and her as an amazing and powerful storm and how she’s better than how he sees himself.

  2. I believe Lauren’s comment is very true, I think Miles saw her as someone perfect and also impossible to beat, but she like everyone else is prone to death. I think Alaska had strength like a hurricane in the sense that she went through so many trials throughout her life, while Miles was a drizzle, with no strength, having experienced nothing tragic.

  3. In a way, I disagree with how you said that even Alaska is prone to death. The book kind of made me feel like even after Alaska died, she wasn't really dead. Sometimes they talked about her like she was still alive, and would do things in her memory such as the prank and the throwing cigarettes in the lake. This really made me feel that even though she died, that she was really still alive.

  4. I hadn't thought into it as a description of emotional strength in the way that you suggest, Amanda, but now that I have a completely agree. Since she lost her mom and thought it was her fault, Alaska definitely had a lot more going on in her life than Miles did until he reached Culver Creek. And then I agree with Kira when she says it felt like she was still alive because they did a few little things after her passing to honour her and I thought it was incredibly touching.
